If you are thinking about wanting to coach with the Sea Lions in 2024 and have not yet applied, the deadline is quickly approaching! Please see the job descriptions below and fill out the application link at the bottom of this post.

Head Coach Job Description - The head coach’s responsibilities include:
- Fosters a balance of development, team spirit and fun, and competition
- Creates a culture of lifelong enjoyment of swimming, teamwork, and positivity within the Sea Lion family
- Attends all practices and meets.
- Practices will start in early-mid May pending pool inspection and the season ends the last week of July with the TSA meet. There are six (6) regular season meets, one time trial intrasquad meet during pre-season, and our championship meet (Cary City Meet)
- Supervises
and supports the entire coaching staff to optimize their maximum
potential within the framework of their coaching abilities and to
provide consistent instruction to all swimmers.
- Promotes individual, actionable feedback during practices and meets to assistants and swimmers
- Provides appropriate notice and delegates responsibility accordingly if time off is needed
- Provides instruction on each of the four (4) basic stroke skills necessary for competitive swimming.
- Instruction includes diving from starting blocks and/or pool side; proper, safe, flip turns as applicable; and general swim meet strategies.
- Partners with Sea Lion swim team coordinator to cast vision and establish team goals.
- Clearly communicates to various stakeholders including swimmers, parents, other coaches, swim team coordinator, volunteers, meet officials, TSA representatives, etc.
- Works with coaching staff to manage meet lineups and weekly responsibilities
- Models and promotes good sportsmanship and team spirit to all swimmers.
- Maintains an organized practice with all Assistant Coaches fully engaged in instruction activities.
Strongly Recommended
- Prior swim coaching experience, ideally as a Head Coach or an Assistant Coach.
- Experience supervising and training other swim coaches.
- Experience with managing lineups via Meet Manager, SwimTopia Meet Maestro or other electronic meet entries
Assistant Coach Job Description - The assistant coach’s responsibilities include
- Assists the Head Coach in implementing daily practices for all swimmers
- Will be age 15 by June 1, 2024
- Provides instruction on each of the four (4) basic stroke skills necessary for competitive swimming.
- Instruction includes diving from starting blocks and/or pool side; proper, safe, flip turns as applicable; and general swim meet strategies.
- Fosters a balance of development, fun, and competition.
- Unafraid to communicate new ideas with colleagues
- Receptive to feedback from colleagues and strives to grow as a coach
- Models and promotes good sportsmanship to all swimmers.
- Assistant coaches are expected to attend all practices and meets.
- Communicates absences appropriately and in a timely manner to head coach or swim team coordinator
