Relays Reminders & Speeding Tickets!

Good morning!

We wanted to send two reminders/info for new parents about our swim meet relays:

1. It is SO important that if you sign your swimmer up for a relay, they commit to swimming in that relay. We had several swimmers this week decide to leave early and would not be able to swim in the freestyle relay. We know there are circumstances that can't be avoided sometimes that cause this to happen, but we just ask everyone to understand what a strain this put on the team and our coaches when they have to make last minute changes to line-ups. A lot of our meets this season will likely go past 10pm, so please keep that in mind when you are signing your swimmers up for late relays.

2. While we want every swimmer to be able to swim in relays if they have signed up, sometimes we just can't get them all in a heat, especially when we are swimming at pools with 6 lanes. We can only run one heat of relays, and in some of our larger age groups (9-10 boys of example) we just don't have the lane space to accommodate all that have signed up at smaller pools. The coaches try really hard to have swimmers in at least one of the relays, but in rare cases, they won't swim in either. This isn't something that will happen every meet, but it will happen on occasion. We know it's super disappointing for a lot of swimmers to not see their name listed in either relay, or in only one, but just know the coaches do their best to give every swimmer an opportunity throughout the season to swim in as many relays as possible.

Thank you all for understanding!

And finally, your swimmers Speeding Tickets have been posted on the bulletin board under the main shelter! For new parents that aren't familiar with our Speeding Tickets, if a swimmer beats their time in a stroke from the previous meet, they will earn a speeding ticket for that stroke. We then pin them up on the bulletin board for swimmers to collect each week. Throughout the season we will have several opportunities to "cash-in" speeding tickets for candy and prizes. So don't lose them! It's a really fun way to reward all their hard work and improvements. And it's so exciting to see them all pinned up!

Arf! Arf!
