Seal Lions Weekly Update 5/29-6/2

Happy Memorial Day!

The pool is open today! Please stop by for Root Beer Floats and check out the Silent Auction one last time before we take them down this evening!

Here is the Weekly Update for this week (5/29-6/2):

Reminder about cancelled practices due to inclement weather: We try and send alerts & emails out early in the afternoon if there's a change to the practice schedule that day. Please check your email throughout the day, if the weather forecast doesn't look great.

Practice Schedule for 5/30-6/2:

4-5pm for 11 and ups

5-6pm for 7-10s

5:45-6:30pm for 6 and unders

Click here for the full calendar.

All swimmers need to wear/bring the following to practice:

-tennis shoes and socks (for any dry land activities the coaches have planned)

-swim suit and goggles

-towel

-water bottle (we want to make sure swimmers stay hydrated!)

Time Trials

Time Trials are next Tuesday, 6/6! They will take place at our pool starting at 6pm (more detailed info will be sent next Monday). This is a mock meet to teach our swimmers (and parents & volunteers) how a meet runs.

Follow these instructions to declare if your swimmer will swim at Time Trials. (All the rest of the meets are also open to declare. We ask for swimmers to try to declare a week before a meet is scheduled if not sooner).

1. Log into your family account at shrcsealions.swimtopia.com.

2. Go to Meets & Events > Sign Up Calendar

3. Click on the green button with a ? mark that says Meet Entry Open.

4. Under each swimmer click on the drop down box that says "undeclared" and choose "attending this meet" or "not attending this meet". You will also be asked about relays for each swimmer. Relays occur at the beginning and the end of the meet.

Distance Requirement for Time Trials

As a reminder, all swimmers must be able to swim the appropriate distance for their age group by Time Trials on June 6th (make-up Time Trials are on Sat. June 10th). Swimmers need to swim the distance in freestyle without grabbing the rope or touching the bottom. 6 and unders must swim 15 yards (1/2 lap), 7-10 must swim 25 yards (1 lap), and 11 and ups must swim 50 yards (2 laps). If your child needs help making this distance, a coach will make contact with you if they haven't already. If you feel your swimmer could benefit from a private lesson with a coach, you can email the coaches at [email protected] or check out our lesson page at https://shrcsealions.swimtopia.com/swimmer-improvement-and-motivation

Pasta Pump-Up is Back!

Pasta Pump-Up is a potluck event we will have every Monday night before a meet, starting June 5th, throughout the season (with exemption of the Monday, July 3rd). This is a fun way to commune together and get pumped up for the upcoming meet. Everyone is asked to bring a dish (main, side, or dessert) to share, one large enough that it would feed your family. Main dishes are not limited to pasta and we will have some gluten free options (Remind, no glass is allowed on the pool deck). We will set all the food up under the covered deck area at the back of the pool. We'll eat around 6:30pm (after the 6 and under practice). Dinner usually wraps up about 7:15 in time for the swimmers to play some games in the back field with the coaches. Come on out and join the fun! Pasta Pump Up Sign-up

We hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day and hopefully the weather will cooperate with us this week!
